For Immediate Release Pennsylvania – Petition Process Now Available Online Pennsylvania
Taxpayers now have the option of filing petitions and appeals contesting
tax assessments, settlements, or determinations online at the Department
of Revenue’s e-Services Center web site. The DOR will accept the following documents: Þ Board of Appeals Petition Þ Sales Tax Intents Þ Sales Tax Appeals The advantages to the Taxpayer are: (1) faster filing – the petition file date will be the date the electronic petition was submitted over the Internet. The appeal will be considered filed up to midnight Eastern Time on a specific date; (2) confirmation that the appeal was timely filed; (3) supporting documents may be submitted electronically; (4) immediate assignment of an Appeals Hearing Officer; (5) status updates as the appeal moves through the process; (6) electronic notification of the final decision and order. As stated above, while subsequent appeals documents cannot be submitted at the e-Service Center, they may be submitted via e-mail or regular mail in electronic format, on CD or on floppy disk. Acceptable formats for electronic files are: Þ Microsoft Word Þ Microsoft Excel Þ PDF Þ TIFF Þ JPEG Þ Bitmap Electronic petitions may still be filed if Taxpayers have exhibits that cannot be attached and sent electronically. Exhibits may be sent via US mail or Express Mail. Taxpayer should indicate in an electronic letter that they plan to send some exhibits by mail. The web site for filing electronic petitions is www.boardofappeals.state.pa.us.
